Compressor minibars
The same technology as a good refrigerator, brought down to hotel-room scale. It cools to a target temperature regardless of how hot it is outside or in the room — and, in the current Indel B generation, it does it while using less energy than any other minibar technology.
How it works
A compressor compresses R600a refrigerant, which expands and absorbs heat from the inside. It is the only one of the three principles with an active cycle — which is why it reaches the temperature you set and holds it, instead of cooling "a few degrees below room temperature".
Consumption — by far the lowest
Between 0.134 and 0.216 kWh per 24h, i.e. 49–79 kWh per room per year. Energy classes go up to C (formerly A+++). By comparison, an absorption minibar of the same capacity uses 210–442 kWh per year. Across 100 rooms, that is a 16,000–36,000 kWh annual difference.
Noise — the argument that changed
Technical sheets list 33–38 dB. A Cube Countertop sits at 33 dB, below a quiet library. The "noisy minibar" reputation comes from older generations; it no longer matches what we ship today.
When you choose it
- High occupancy, with frequent door openings
- Hot climates or rooms without permanent AC
- When drinks need to be genuinely cold, not just cool
- When energy consumption is in the spec sheet
- When you need a specific form factor: the only technology with countertop and wall-mounted variants, not just built-in
When not
- If any sound at all, however small, is a problem in that room — thermoelectric is the answer there, not absorption.
Lines with this technology
FRIDOM (Cube, Flyingbar Evo, Horizon, Ycon), K Ecosmart (K20/K35/K40/K60), Drawer (KD50 Ecosmart).
The Indel B story →Compressor technology powers the K Ecosmart range: a high-performance compressor, cyclopentane insulation and R600a refrigerant gas (chlorine-free, so no ozone impact) — the most efficient option, between 0.134 and 0.216 kWh/24h depending on the model, and also the quietest of the active technologies.
The three technologies, side by side
| Compressor | Thermoelectric | Absorption | |

| Noise | 33–38 dB | completely silent | unpublished |
