How to choose, in four questions
How many rooms?
Under 80 — 1, 3 or 5 litre refills, poured by hand. Above 80 — worth evaluating Refillution, which becomes cost-effective from roughly 80 rooms (our own payback estimate, not an exact threshold).
What category?
At 5 stars, the dispenser is a design object: ILLI, the Diamond collection, aluminium, glass or ceramic. At 3–4 stars, reliability and cost per occupied room matter most: SmartCare, SHAPE.
How much space in the bathroom?
Below a certain point, 300 ml won’t fit by the basin — then MINI, 200 ml. At high occupancy with frequent shower use, XL, 525 ml, so it doesn’t need daily refilling.
Do you already have dispensers installed?
Then the question isn’t which dispenser, but which refill is compatible. Tell us the brand and we send the matching refills, not a system you’d have to replace.
Hygiene, the first question
For refilling (Refillution): the container stays sealed during transfer, so the product never contacts laundry-room or storage air; each container gets an individual batch number, so filling is traceable; the pump is peristaltic — the liquid only touches food-contact-grade tubing, never the pump mechanism.
For membrane dispensers: the bottle empties completely, and a safe-lock seal shows whether the system has been opened. The principle was tested by the independent Rhine-Waal institute in Germany, which confirmed the absence of back-contamination.
Refills and bulk

The 1, 3 and 5 l refills are poured by hand; the 10 l SmartCube is transferred with the Refillution station.
Refillution cuts plastic use by up to 95%, averaging 4.5 kg of plastic waste per room per year (ADA Sustainability Report 2024) — for 120 rooms, 540 kg a year. The figure belongs to Refillution, not to refilling in general.
Installation and maintenance
SmartCare / SHAPE / Pump wall brackets, drilled or adhesive mounting, shower-cabin holders. Cleaning is simple and periodic.
What the regulation does not impose
From 1 January 2030, single-use packaging for cosmetics and toiletries may no longer be offered in accommodation establishments (EU Regulation 2025/40, Article 25 and Annex V point 5). The regulation does not mandate a specific system — it mandates the disappearance of single-use packaging per stay and leaves the hotel to choose the means.
